| Thallus very branched, small, to 2 cm tall. Lobes imbricate, weakly canaliculate, to 2 mm wide; margins crisped; marginal projections subterete to flat, dorsiventral, small, to 0.5 mm long; marginal pseudocyphellae small, becoming farinose-sorediate; eciliate. Upper surface pale grey, pale olive, to brown or very dark brown (almost black), smooth to weakly rugose, dull. Laminal pseudocyphellae absent. Lower surface smooth, shiny, off-white to pale cream. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-; containing protolichesterinic acid. | ||
| In Australia, this species is confined to Tas., where it is very rare. Grows on the trunks and branches of trees in sheltered forest, rarely in open forest. One specimen was collected on open soil near the coast. | ||
