  Thallus small-foliose, adnate to tightly adnate, radiating, to 3–5 cm wide. Lobes imbricate or not, flat, sublinear-elongate, irregularly branched, 0.3–1 mm wide. Upper surface yellow-green, occasionally darkening, dull, emaculate, without soredia; older lobes irregularly fractured and areolae commonly formed; isidia dense, cylindrical, becoming extensively branched, coralloid or antler-like, to 0.5–3 mm high and 0.3 mm wide; isidia apices syncorticate. Medulla white. Lower surface pale brown, becoming darker near lobe apices; rhizines moderately dense, simple, brown. Apothecia sessile, 2–5 mm wide; disc concave, becoming undulating, dark brown; thalline exciple thick, entire, becoming densely isidiate. Ascospores 6–8 × 3.5–4.5 µm. Pycnidia absent. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K+ yellow then dark red, C-, P+ intense yellow; containing usnic acid, salazinic acid (major), consalazinic acid and ±traces of norstictic acid.
     
  Scattered on rock in hinterland areas of southern W.A., N.T., Qld, N.S.W., Lord Howe Is., Vic. and Tas. Locally common on outcrops of Hawkesbury sandstone in N.S.W. and lateritic rocks of Darling Ra. in W.A. Endemic.
