Thallus foliose, loosely adnate, forming loosely disjointed patches to 10 cm wide. Lobes weakly convolute, distorted, often entangled, elongate, subdichotomously branched, 1–2 (–3) mm wide; laciniae 0.3–0.5 mm wide, often growing over primary lobes or occasionally developing as revolute lobules in thallus centre and along margins of older lobes. Upper surface pale yellow-green, convex, dull, slightly rugulose, lacking maculae, soredia and isidia. Medulla white. Lower surface partly canaliculate, pale brown to brown; rhizines sparse to moderately dense, simple, concolorous; lobules with dark-brown to black-brown lower surface and rhizines. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K-, C-, KC+ rose, P-; containing usnic acid, loxodin (minor) and norlobaridone (major). | ||
Endemic, scattered on soil and debris in mallee scrub and subarid shrubland in inland Australia (W.A., S.A., Qld, N.S.W. and Vic.). | ||
