Thallus subcrustose to small-foliose, tightly adnate, ±forming small rosettes, to 3–7 cm wide. Lobes not imbricate, contiguous or ±radiating at periphery, sublinear-elongate, irregularly branched, 0.3–0.6 (–1) mm wide; apices incised. Upper surface greenish yellow, darkening with age, flat to slightly convex, dull, emaculate, lacking soredia and isidia; older lobes rugulose then irregularly to transversely fractured and areolae commonly formed. Medulla white. Lower surface flat, tan to brown; rhizines sparse, short, simple, brown. Apothecia sessile, 1–3 mm wide; disc concave, dark brown; thalline exciple smooth, narrow, ±crenulate. Ascospores 7–9 × 4–5 µm. Pycnidia poorly developed. Conidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K+ pale yellow then brown, C-, KC-, P+ orange-red; containing usnic acid, fumarprotocetraric acid, succinprotocetraric acid and protocetraric acid (trace). | ||
