Thallus small-foliose to subcrustose in the centre, adnate to tightly adnate, to 3 cm wide. Lobes not or very sparingly imbricate, ±contiguous, sublinear, subdichotomously branched, 0.2-0.6 mm wide. Upper surface dark brown, dull throughout or slightly shiny at lobe apices, ±smooth, flat to mainly convex, becoming fissured, subareolate, moderately isidiate; isidia cylindrical, simple for the most part or sparingly branched, to 0.3 mm high, with syncorticate, intact apices. Medulla white. Lower surface dull, smooth, black, canaliculate in part, sparsely rhizinate; rhizines simple, black. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: Cortex K-, HNO3+ dark blue-green; medulla K-, C-, KC-, UV-; containing barbatic acid (major), 4-O-demethylbarbatic acid (minor/trace). | ||
