Thallus foliose, adnate, to 2–4 cm wide. Lobes imbricate or not, subirregular, irregularly branched, 0.8–2 mm wide. Upper surface yellow to pale yellow-green, dull, emaculate, irregularly cracked, lacking soredia and isidia; marginal lobes and laciniae convex; older lobes becoming distinctly rugulose and ±areolate or verruculose; lobes often with blackened margins at apices. Medulla white. Lower surface ivory to pale brown, often darkening towards lobe apices; some marginal or secondary central lobes canaliculate; rhizines sparse, simple, tufted or not, 0.1–0.3 mm long, brown. Apothecia sessile, to 4 mm wide; disc concave, becoming undulating, dark brown; thalline exciple smooth, thick and involute, becoming thin, slightly crenulate, persistent. Ascospores 10–12 × 5–6 µm. Pycnidia rare. Conidia bifusiform, 6–7 × 0.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K-, C-, KC+ rose, P-; containing usnic acid, norlobaridone and loxodin; rarely containing scabrosin 4,4'-dibutyrate, scabrosin 4-acetate 4'-butyrate or scabrosin 4-acetate 4'-hexanoate. | ||
Common but restricted, endemic, on exposed rock and pebbles in arid grasslands of inland W.A. and S.A. | ||
