| Thallus small-foliose to subcrustose in centre, very tightly adnate, to 3–6 cm wide. Lobes contiguous to imbricate, irregular, divergent, irregularly branched, short, 0.5–0.8 (–1) mm wide. Upper surface pale yellow-green, flat or becoming convex in places, dull, emaculate, becoming cracked and areolate in older parts of thallus, lacking soredia and isidia; lobes often with black margins towards apices. Medulla white. Lower surface flat, pale brown to brown, somewhat darker towards lobe apices; rhizines moderately dense, simple, c. 0.4 mm long, concolorous. Apothecia sessile, c. 0.3 mm wide; disc concave, dark brown; thalline exciple entire. Ascospores 7–9 × 4.5–5.5 µm. Pycnidia common. Conidia bifusiform, 4–5 × 0.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-; containing usnic acid, hypoprotocetraric acid and ±4-O-demethylnotatic acid (trace). | ||
| Very rare, endemic, found on sheltered rock ledges with a southerly aspect in central Australia (N.T. and S.A.). Grows on rock. | ||
