| Thallus small-foliose to subcrustose, tightly adnate, to 1–3 cm wide. Lobes barely imbricate or not, flat, irregular, irregularly branched, 0.5–1 mm wide. Upper surface yellow-green, darkening with age, shiny at least near apices, emaculate, becoming transversely or irregularly cracked, without soredia; older lobes becoming rugulose and areolate; isidia in thallus centre, simple, globose, coarse, becoming shortly cylindrical, rarely branched; isidia apices epicorticate, commonly inflated and becoming erumpent but not sorediate. Medulla white. Lower surface pale tan to light brown; apices darker, shiny; rhizines sparse to moderately dense, simple, short (c. 0.1 mm), concolorous. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K+ yellow then dark red, C-, P+ yellow; containing usnic acid, norstictic acid (major), connorstictic acid (minor), ±constipatic acid and ±protoconstipatic acid | ||
