Thallus foliose, adnate, to 5 cm wide. Lobes imbricate or contiguous, sublinear to subirregular, irregularly branched, 1-2.5 mm wide, laciniate; laciniae short, sublinear, 0.5-1.0 mm wide; marginal lobes with rotund apices. Upper surface grey to pale yellow-grey, shiny, ±flat, emaculate, lacking soredia and isidia; older central lobes becoming rugulose, with margins often blackened, rarely lobulate. Medulla white. Lower surface flat, ivory to pale tan, darkening near the apices of the lobes; rhizines sparse, short, slender, simple, concolorous. Apothecia sessile to substipitate, 2-6 mm wide; disc deeply concave and then ±flat, dark brown; thalline exciple smooth, margins entire, involute then ±undulating. Ascospores ellipsoid, 8-10 x 5-6 µm. Pycnidia common, black, immersed. Conidia bifusiform, 6-7 x 0.7 µm. CHEMISTRY: Cortex K-; medulla K-, C-, KC+ rose, P-; containing isousnic acid (major), loxodin (minor), norlobaridone (major). | ||
