| Thallus foliose to subcrustose, adnate to tightly adnate, to 5–8 cm wide. Lobes contiguous to imbricate, flat, sublinear-elongate, irregularly branched, 1–2.5 mm wide; apices rotund. Upper surface pale yellow-green to olive-green, darkening with age, dull, emaculate, not rugulose, lacking isidia and soredia; older lobes often developing transverse cracks and becoming areolate. Medulla white. Lower surface pale brown to dark brown; rhizines moderately dense, simple, c. 0.1 mm long, dark brown. Apothecia sessile, 2–8 mm wide; disc concave, dark brown to black; thalline exciple smooth. Ascospores 8–10 × 5–7 µm. Pycnidia common. Conidia bifusiform, 5–6 × 0.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K+ pale yellow then brown, C-, KC-, P+ orange-red; containing usnic acid, fumarprotocetraric acid, succinprotocetraric acid and ±protocetraric acid (trace). | ||
| Relatively common, endemic, on rock in drier tableland, subarid and arid areas of southern Australia (W.A., S.A., Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T. and Vic.), particularly semiarid chenopod shrublands of inland S.A. | ||
