| Thallus foliose, loosely adnate, to 5–8 cm wide. Lobes often imbricate, flat, narrow, sublinear-elongate, di- or trichotomously branched, 0.5–1 (–2) mm wide. Upper surface yellow-green, shiny, with distinct or effigurate maculae, smooth, lacking isidia and soredia; lobes often black-margined, particularly towards apices. Medulla white. Lower surface rugulose or not, black; rhizines sparse to moderately dense, simple, robust, 0.5–1.5 mm long, black. Apothecia subpedicellate, 3–6 mm wide; disc concave, dark brown; thalline exciple maculate, thick, entire, involute, becoming dentate and cracked. Ascospores 6–8 × 4–5 µm. Pycnidia common. Conidia bifusiform, 5–6 × 0.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K+ pale yellow then brownish, C-, P+ orange-red; containing usnic acid, fumarprotocetraric acid, ±protocetraric acid (trace) and ±succinprotocetraric acid (trace). | ||
