Thallus minutely foliose to subcrustose, saxicolous, adnate to moderately adnate, 0.5-0.7 cm wide. Lobes separate, sublinear, dichotomously to irregularly branched, 0.1-0.3 (-0.5) mm wide. Upper surface reddish brown to black-brown, convex, slightly shiny at the lobe apices, becoming rugose and cracked with age, sparsely isidiate towards the centre; isidia globose, simple, with syncorticate, intact apices. Medulla white. Lower surface black to brown-black; rhizines sparse, black, simple, robust. Pycnidia and apothecia not seen. CHEMISTRY: Cortex K-, HNO3+ dark blue-green, medulla K-, C-, P-; containing 4-O-methylphysodic acid (major), a-collatolic acid (trace), physodic acid (trace). | ||
