| Thallus foliose, loosely adnate, to 9 cm wide. Lobes moderately imbricate or in places suberect, flat, linear-elongate, subdichotomously branched, divaricate in places, 0.5–1.5 mm wide. Upper surface yellow-green, shiny, emaculate, smooth, lacking soredia and isidia; lobe margins shiny, black or brown. Medulla white. Lower surface smooth, shiny or matt, black or very dark brown, sometimes with a paler zone towards apices; rhizines very sparse, simple, ±tufted, robust, concolorous. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-; containing usnic acid, scabrosin 4-acetate 4'-butyrate, scabrosin 4-acetate 4'-hexanoate, scabrosin 4,4'-dibutyrate and scabrosin 4,4'-diacetate (trace). | ||
