Thallus small-foliose, lobate in thallus centre, loosely adnate, to 4–6 cm wide. Lobes moderately imbricate, subirregular to sublinear, irregularly branched, (0.3–) 0.5–1 mm wide. Upper surface yellow-green, flat, shiny at lobe apices, emaculate, smooth, without soredia; lobe margins smooth, black; isidia in thallus centre, simple, globose, then cylindrical or expanding laterally, rarely branching; isidia apices syncorticate and not erumpent. Medulla white. Lower surface flat, shiny, brown to pale brown, darker black-brown at lobe apices; rhizines sparse, simple, short (0.1–0.2 mm), concolorous. Apothecia sessile, to 3 mm wide; disc concave becoming ±flat, pale brown to dark brown; thalline exciple thick, involute, becoming thinner and crenate, isidiate. Ascospores 7–9 × 4–5.5 µm. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K+ yellow then dark red, C-, P+ yellow; containing usnic acid, norstictic acid (major), salazinic acid (major), consalazinic acid (minor) and connorstictic acid (minor). | ||
