Thallus foliose, loosely adnate, forming irregular subpulvinate patches or rosettes to 10 cm wide. Lobes often entangled, revolute to convolute, elongate, subdichotomously branched, 1–2 mm wide; often with laciniae growing over primary lobes, 0.3–0.5 mm wide, occasionally becoming subterete, coralloid, isidia-like, growing up from lobules in thallus centre. Upper surface pale yellow-green, convex, dull, smooth to slightly rugulose, lacking maculae, soredia and isidia. Medulla white. Lower surface pale tan to light brown; rhizines sparse to moderately dense, simple, concolorous. Apothecia occasional, sessile, to 2 mm wide; disc concave, smooth, brown; thalline exciple thick, crenulate. Ascospores 8–10 × 6–7 µm. Pycnidia common. Conidia bifusiform, 5–6 × 0.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K+ yellow then dark red, C-, P+ yellow then orange; containing usnic acid, norstictic acid (major), salazinic acid and connorstictic acid. | ||
