  Thallus foliose to subcrustose, tightly adnate, to c. 5 cm wide. Lobes imbricate or not, flat, sublinear-elongate to subirregular, irregularly branched, 1–2.5 (–3) mm wide; apices ±rotund. Upper surface yellow-green, darkening, becoming dark greyish green, dull, emaculate, lacking soredia and isidia; older lobes rugulose, extensively fractured and verruciform areolae c. 1 mm wide commonly formed; lobes commonly black-margined, particularly towards apices. Medulla white. Lower surface pale tan to light brown, often somewhat darker to smoke-grey near lobe apices; rhizines moderately dense, simple, slender, short, pale brown. Apothecia not seen. Pycnidia common. Conidia bifusiform, 5–6 × 0.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K+ yellow-brown, C-, P+ orange-red; containing usnic acid and protocetraric acid.
     
  Very rare, on rock in arid areas of Flinders Ra. (S.A.); also in South Africa.
