Thallus foliose, subpulvinate, unattached, forming irregular rosettes or cushions, to 1–3 cm wide. Lobes separate to subimbricate, often weakly convoluted, sublinear-elongate, subdichotomously to irregularly branched, exposing lower surface, 1–2.5 mm wide, lacking lobules. Upper surface pale yellow to pale yellow-green, flat to slightly convex, shiny, maculate, smooth or slightly rugulose in older lobes, lacking soredia and isidia. Medulla white. Lower surface flat to canaliculate, concolorous with upper surface; rhizines very sparse, simple or rarely sparsely branched, 1–3 mm long, black. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K+ faint gold, C-, KC-, P+ yellow then orange-red; containing usnic acid, fumarprotocetraric acid, succinprotocetraric acid, ±protocetraric acid (trace) and ±physodalic acid (trace). | ||
Scattered, endemic, on soil in drier areas of southern Australia (W.A., S.A., southern Qld, N.S.W. and Tas.). | ||
