Thallus small-foliose, adnate to tightly adnate, to 3–5 cm wide. Lobes not or sparingly imbricate, sublinear to subirregular, subdichotomously branched, 0.5–2 mm wide. Upper surface yellowish green, mostly flat, shiny, emaculate, developing transverse cracks, becoming rugose and areolate, without isidia; lobe margins often black; soralia dense, globose-capitate at first then coalescing; soredia granular. Medulla white. Lower surface flat, chestnut-brown except for a black-brown marginal zone which is particularly prominent near lobe apices; rhizines moderately dense, simple, concolorous. Apothecia rare, sessile, 1–3 mm wide; disc weakly concave, red-brown. Ascospores 5–8 × 4–6 µm. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K-, C-, KC+ rose, P-; containing usnic acid, constipatic acid, protoconstipatic acid, loxodin, conloxodin, norlobaridone, conorlobaridone and an unidentified substance. | ||
A rare and scattered endemic species on rock in south-western and south-eastern Australia (W.A., N.S.W. and A.C.T.). | ||
