  Thallus foliose, moderately adnate to adnate, to 3–8 cm wide. Lobes radiating, flat, irregular to sublinear, 1.5–3 mm wide; margins tightly appressed, slightly imbricate. Upper surface yellowish brown to dark brown, dull or slightly shiny, smooth to slightly rugulose at margins, becoming rugose and cracked towards thallus centre, without isidia; marginal lobes paler with whitish grey pruina at apices. Lower surface dull, rugose, cracked, pale tan to pale brown; rhizines sparse, simple, to 0.5 mm long, pale brown. Apothecia common, sessile to shortly pedicellate, to 6 mm wide; disc deeply concave, shiny, dark brown; thalline exciple thick and inrolled, becoming thin, incised and crenulate. Ascospores 8–9 × 6–7 µm. Pycnidia common; ostiole dark brown. Conidia bacilliform or slightly curved, 5–6 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, HNO3+ pale blue; medulla K-, C-, KC+ rose-red, P-, UV-; containing loxodellic, glomellic and glomelliferic acids.
     
  Common in W.A. and S.A. Grows on calcareous rock.
