Thallus small-foliose or becoming subcrustose in centre, tightly adnate, to 1–4 cm wide, coalescing into larger patches. Lobes not or very sparingly imbricate, sublinear to irregular, 0.2–0.8 mm wide. Upper surface dark brown, dull throughout or slightly shiny at lobe apices, ±smooth and flat at periphery, convex within, becoming fissured and rugose to subareolate, without isidia. Lower surface ±dull, smooth, pale tan to pale brown, partly attached directly to substratum, elsewhere sparsely rhizinate; rhizines small, fine, to 0.2 mm long, concolorous or becoming darker. Apothecia common, sessile or shortly pedicellate, 0.5–2 mm wide; disc concave at first, becoming ±flat or undulate, dark brown to black; thalline exciple entire. Ascospores 7–9 × 4–6 µm. Pycnidia common. Conidia weakly bifusiform, 6–7 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, HNO3+ dark blue-green; medulla K-, C-, KC+ yellow, P-, UV-; containing barbatic acid (major), norobtusatic acid (minor) and 4-O-demethylbarbatic acid (trace). | ||
A rare, but possibly overlooked endemic species, known only from the type locality. Grows on rock. | ||
