Thallus foliose, tightly adnate, to 3–7 cm wide. Lobes imbricate, sublinear-elongate to subirregular, subirregularly to subdichotomously branched, 0.4–1.5 mm wide. Upper surface pale to dark grey, flat, shiny, emaculate, smooth, lacking soredia and isidia. Lower surface pale tan to brown, darker at lobe margins; rhizines sparse, simple, robust, brown. Apothecia subpedicellate, 1.5–3 mm wide; disc concave, black-brown; thalline exciple entire, smooth. Ascospores 9–10 × 5–6 µm. Pycnidia common. Conidia 5–7 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K+ yellow then dark red, C-, P+ orange; containing atranorin, norstictic acid (major) and connorstictic acid. | ||
