Thallus small-foliose, tightly adnate, to 5 cm wide. Lobes scarcely imbricate, separate at apices, ±contiguous within, sublinear-elongate, subdichotomously branched, 0.5–1.2 mm wide. Upper surface pale grey to grey or darkening, flat, shiny and black-margined towards apices, becoming dull, emaculate, smooth, without soredia; isidia moderately dense, globose to short-cylindrical, simple, less than 0.2 mm tall; isidia apices blackening, syncorticate, intact. Lower surface pale brown to brown, blackening at lobe margins and apices; rhizines sparse to moderately dense, simple, concolorous. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K+ pale yellow-brown, C-, P+ red-orange; containing atranorin and protocetraric acid (major). | ||
