Thallus epiphloeodal or epilithic, rimose, pale grey-green to pale greenish brown, matt to slightly glossy, smooth to rugulose, 60–120 (–200) µm thick, with a dark grey-brown to black basal layer; prothallus dark brown and discontinuous or not apparent. Algae Trentepohlia; cells 8–16 × 8–13 µm. Perithecial verrucae hemispherical, 0.35–0.6 mm diam.; wall containing a layer of colourless crystals; apex ±rounded; ostiole inconspicuous or in a shallow depression; periostiolar area dark brown to black, 0.1–0.35 mm diam. Involucrellum apical to dimidiate. Exciple 15–25 µm thick, pale brown. Centrum 0.16–0.3 mm wide. Asci narrowly obclavate to elongate-cylindrical, 90–150 × 9–13 µm. Ascospores elongate-fusiform to ±filiform, (9–) 11–13 (–15)-septate, 32–56 × 3–5 µm; perispore thin or not apparent. Pycnidia immersed in minute verrucae. Conidia fusiform, 2–3 × 0.7–1 µm. | ||
Occurs in Christmas Is., northern N.T. and north-eastern Qld; grows on smooth bark and shaded siliceous rock. Also in SE Asia, Taiwan and Polynesia. | ||
