Thallus epiphyllous, in small rounded patches that often coalesce, pale greenish grey, smooth, matt to slightly glossy; prothallus not apparent. Algae Phycopeltis; cells in scattered clusters, not forming radiating plates. Perithecia convex to slightly conical, black, 0.23–0.35 mm diam., frequently overgrown almost to the apex by a thin layer of thallus, thus appearing dark grey. Involucrellum spreading at the base, brownish black in thin section. Exciple c. 10 µm thick, pale grey-brown to dark brown. Asci cylindroclavate to narrowly obclavate, 50–60 × 8–10 µm. Ascospores fusiform, 5 (–7)-septate, 20–32 × 4–5 µm; perispore moderately thick or not apparent. Pycnidia not seen. | ||
Occurs in north-eastern Qld; grows on leaves of trees and shrubs in rainforest. Also in the Seychelles, India, Nepal, Malesia, China, SE Asia, Hawai'i and the South Pacific. | ||
