Thallus epiphyllous, often forming extensive patches, pale grey-green to pale green, smooth to minutely uneven, dull to slightly glossy; prothallus not apparent. Algae Phycopeltis; cells somewhat rounded, angular or irregular, not forming radiating plates. Perithecial verrucae convex to ±hemispherical, 0.25–0.4 (–0.5) mm diam.; wall containing a layer of colourless crystals; apex plane to rounded; ostiole usually inconspicuous; periostiolar area concolorous or pale reddish brown. Involucrellum apical and ±vestigial to dimidiate. Exciple c. 10 µm thick, hyaline to pale yellowish brown. Asci mostly narrowly obclavate, 60–84 × 9–12 µm. Ascospores elongate-fusiform to ±bacilliform, 7-septate, 25–35 × 3–4.5 µm, often with a distinctly more acute proximal apex; perispore not apparent. Pycnidia not seen. | ||
The most common and widespread foliicolous species in Australia, its range extends from far-north-eastern Qld almost as far south as Sydney, N.S.W.; also in Christmas Is. Found in all tropical and many subtropical regions of the world. | ||
