Thallus epiphyllous, continuous and forming moderately large patches, or dispersed and ±monocarpous, pale to rather dark green or medium grey-green, smooth, slightly glossy; prothallus not apparent. Algae Phycopeltis; cells rectangular, forming radiating plates. Perithecia superficial, applanate, with a slightly conical centre to convex, 0.2–0.4 mm diam., pale to dark cherry-red to dark red-brown and with the base overgrown by the thallus; old perithecia often leaving dark rings (involucrellar bases); ostiole inconspicuous. Involucrellum reddish brown in thin section. Exciple c. 10 µm thick, pale orange-brown. Asci narrowly obclavate, 45–60 × 9–11 µm. Ascospores elongate-clavate or bacilliform, 3-septate, 18–28 × 2.5–4.5 µm; perispore not apparent. Pycnidia not seen. | ||
Occurs in eastern Qld and north-eastern N.S.W.; grows on leaves of trees and shrubs in rainforest. A common pantropical lichen. | ||
