Thallus corticolous or lignicolous, 1–4 cm wide, thin, continuous to rimose and ±areolate, whitish, grey-white, grey or pale yellow-brown, weakly to markedly verrucose. Prothallus black or not apparent. Apothecia 0.2–1.1 mm wide, sessile; disc black, epruinose, plane or becoming convex; margin black, moderately thick, persistent or excluded in convex apothecia. Proper exciple dark red-brown, paler in the inner part. Epihymenium 10–20 μm thick, brown, K–. Hymenium 120–150 μm thick, inspersed with oil droplets. Hypothecium 40–60 μm thick, dark brown. Asci 8-spored, occasionally with fewer ascospores. Ascospores 1-septate, 22–34 × 8–14 μm, with strong subapical and septal wall thickenings; outer wall smooth. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K+ red, P+ yellow or yellow-orange; containing norstictic acid (major), connorstictic acid (minor or trace). |
