| Thallus crustose-leprose, bright lemon-yellow, stratified at least in part, very loosely adnate, delimited or not, forming small irregularly roundish convex cushions 5–10 mm wide which eventually coalesce into irregularly spreading patches to 5 cm wide. Soredia coarse, with scattered to pulverulent granules, ±spherical, 60–160 μm wide. Medulla distinct in part, almost byssoid, yellow in the upper part, almost white within, to 1.5 mm thick. Photobiont cells ±globose, 10–18 μm wide, solitary or clustered. Prothallus pale grey-white to black. Apothecia not seen. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K–, C–, KC–, P–, UV+ pale orange; containing leprapinic acid (major), 4,5-dichlorolichexanthone (minor). |
