Thallus continuous or marginally dispersed, 5–10 mm wide, smooth, whitish grey. Photobiont cells rectangular, in radiating rows, 9–14 × 4–5 μm. Apothecia adnate, rounded or slightly irregular, 0.7–1.2 mm wide; disc dark bluish grey, especially in the marginal parts, with a thick whitish pruina. Epihymenium composed of horizontal hyphae, pale yellowish to greyish brown. Hymenium 50–70 μm thick, colourless. Paraphyses branched and anastomosing, c. 1 μm thick. Asci broadly ovoid to ±globose, 8-spored, 40–70 × 20–40 μm. Ascospores broadly clavate, 3–5-septate, macrocephalic, 25–35 × 8–10 μm. Pycnidia applanate, rounded to slightly elongate, 0.2–0.4 mm wide, greyish black. Conidia filiform, 3–9-septate, 70–110 × 1.5–2.0 μm, but often broken into fragments that are 1–3-septate and 25–35 μm long.
