  Thallus usually hypophyllous, occasionally epiphyllous, subcuticular, effuse to continuous, growing at the leaf margin or scattered over the undersurface, often coalescing into large colonies 20–50 mm wide, grey-green to dull medium green, occasionally with a bluish tint, smooth; photobiont Cephaleuros; prothallus not apparent. Perithecia superficial, ±conical, 0.35–0.80 (–0.90) mm diam., dull to glossy black, the base sometimes spreading laterally. Perithecial apex subacute; ostiole inconspicuous or in a minute shallow depression. Involucrellum black, carbonaceous, extending to exciple base level, 20–40 (–50) µm thick. Exciple hyaline, 8–15 µm thick. Centrum 0.25–0.50 mm diam. Paraphyses richly branched and anastomosing. Asci cylindrical, 80–120 × 9–16 µm. Ascospores uniseriate or oblique in the ascus, fusiform, 1-septate (occasionally with 2–6 pseudosepta), constricted at the septum, 35–60 (–70) × 4.5–7.0 (–7.5) µm; cells frequently separating within or outside the ascus. Conidiomata: 1) hemispherical, black, 0.08–0.20 mm diam., containing short-cylindrical 1-septate macroconidia 8–12 × 3–4 µm; 2) convex, black and 0.05–0.08 mm diam., containing simple fusiform microconidia 3–4 × 1.0–1.5 µm
     
  Grows on the leaves of rainforest trees in eastern Qld and north-eastern N.S.W.; pantropical and southern-temperate.
