Australian National Herbarium (Program HC)
Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
Team Leader: Brendan Lepschi
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) database is the standard reference dataset for plant names in Australia, containing more than 100,000 separate entries. APNI provides basic nomenclatural data on all published plant names (including synonyms) applied to taxa of Australian origin, including information relating to:
- place of publication
- authors
- synonymy
- type specimens
- secondary references and usage
- other nomenclatural information
APNI does not provide information on the generally accepted scientific names in use in Australia. This is the role of the Australian Plant Census (APC), a collaborative project between all Australian state and territory herbaria aimed at providing an agreed national list of names for all Australian vascular plants.
APNI is maintained in-house at the Australian National Herbarium on behalf of the Australian botanical community, and is available at
http://www.cpbr.gov.au/apni.
The APNI team welcomes corrections or feedback on the project and its constituent data via: canbr-info@anbg.gov.au
