Flowers edging Banks Walk are many including Rhododendron viriosum attractive with the red bell-shaped flowers [seen in a pot outside the Visitors Centre]and the red flowering gum, Corymbia ficifolia ‘Wildfire’ [Section 174] displaying its fluffy red flowers on a small tree. This walk will wander through the Mallee area of SA and WA, a longer but pleasant walk.
- Passing the Rock Garden waterfall where Lythrum salicaria [Section 15s] growing between the pools, with pink terminal flowers on the tall upright stems. Continue to view the developing Red Centre Garden. Then take the left road which edges the development.
- Chrysocephalum apiculatum [Section 300] is a suckering plant clad with small orange flower heads on long stems.
- Set between the rocks, Sturt’s Desert Pea, Swainsona formosa [Section 100b] displays it dark centred red pea shaped flowers.
- A patch of the suckering Button Wrinklewort Rutidosis leptorrhynchoides [Section 100b] is a dense groundcover clad with yellow button shaped flowers.
- Grevillea tetragonoloba [Section 100b] with branches towards the road, has red toothbrush-like flowers among the fine divided leaves.
- Towards the corner a blue-bush,Maireana sedifolia [Section 100b] covers its small branches with grey fleshy leaves. Although not flowering, the shrub is quite attractive.
- While at the corner, Eremophila warnesii [Section 100b] has only few low lateral branches with terminal velvety leaves and few bright mauve bugle flowers.
- Enter the SA and WA Mallee area in an anticlockwise direction. Eremophila alternifolia [Section 100b] is an open shrub with pink trumpet shaped flowers.
- Nearby Eremophila calorhabdos [Section 100b] is an upright dense shrub with small leaves hugging the stems and magenta coloured flowers towards the terminals of the branches.
- Lechenaultia biloba [Section 100b] bears soft small blue flowers on small upright stems.
- Beaufortia orbifolia has red bottlebrush-like flowers towards the branch terminals on the medium size shrub.
- Thryptomene denticulata [Section 100b] is a small open shrub with fine foliage and tiny pink flowers edging the stems.
- At the corner the red flowering gum, Corymbia ficifolia [Section 100c] is attractive with its many fruits, its lovely red flowers are seen at the top of the small tree.
- Thomasia petalocalyx [Section 100a] covers the inner corner. It is a medium dense shrub profuse with small downturned pink flowers.
- Grevillea tripartita subsp. macrostylis [Section 100c] has few long branches with sharp leaves and attractive dusky red and yellow flowers with long curved styles.
- Pelargonium rodneyanum [Section 100c] is a low spreading plant with pink geranium-like flowers.
- Hypocalymma jessicae [Section 100a] is a shrub of medium size, clad with tiny frilly pink flowers and lastly,
- Astartea sp. [Section 100c], close to the path, is bright with white petalled flowers on the upright shrub.
- Return to the road and in the small section opposite, Babingtonia pluriflora [Section 41] is a large dense shrub profuse with small white petalled flowers.
- Edging the road Goodenia macmillanii [Section 41] has long low stems with soft pink flowers.
- Climbing high over many shrubs, Hibiscus heterophyllus [Section 41] displays its many large white flowers.
